Working across people, pressure, behaviour and systems

    You know the feeling.

On your knees, clutching your toes. The bed wins again. You knew exactly where it was. You still hit it. And for half a second, somehow, it’s the bed’s fault.

We do the same thing with children, teams, businesses and ourselves. Before fixing the person, there is often a better question: What keeps making this happen?

    Children and families

More confidence. More independence. Less managing every move. Children grow when the environment gives them something real to rise to.

    Founders and operators

Less carrying. Better decisions. More ownership. When the same problem keeps coming back, there is usually more going on than the person or problem in front of you.

    The pattern underneath the problem

Something happens We react We blame the obvious thing

A better question: What keeps making this easy, normal or necessary? Change that, and behaviour often changes with it.

Where the work is visible now

A few current expressions of a much longer body of work.

The thinking behind them has been shaped across classrooms, retail floors, boardrooms, startups, sports, families, communities and founder-led businesses.

    Field notes

    Things worth noticing.

    Observation · September 2026

The bed didn’t move. So why are you still angry at the bed?

We spend a lot of time trying to correct behaviour directly. Sometimes that is exactly where the work belongs. Sometimes the better question is: What keeps making this behaviour the easiest response? Because another lecture rarely changes an environment that keeps producing the same result.

    A sensible next step

    Still hitting the same corner?

If the same problem keeps coming back, there may be more going on than the obvious explanation. I work with a small number of founders, operators, families and organisations where the situation is real and something worth changing is within reach.

Start with what is actually happening. Work backwards from there.
